Badminton School

At Badminton, there are no glass ceilings, no boundaries; only enormous freedom for girls to discover what they enjoy and what they excel at, not just academically, but also beyond the classroom.

Badminton is a vibrant, thriving and exciting day and boarding school for girls aged 3 – 18. We embrace and respect our 160-year heritage but pride ourselves on being progressive in an increasingly global society.

We push the boundaries on putting learning into action. Our students get to know more than a thin veneer of facts, they get to understand the how and why and, most importantly, if they enjoy engaging with their objects in a real-world sense. Our focus is on nurturing the pupils’ natural curiosity and fuelling their passion for learning. As a result, the School continues to hold a nationally outstanding academic record, affording us one of the top spots on the league tables: In the latest published Sunday Times “Parent Power” report, Badminton was once again in the top 20 Independent Schools for girls in the country and was ranked fourth best Independent School of any type in the South West. However, we find more pride in the individual successes of the pupils; your daughter will be fully supported in whatever her talents or interests may be.

What is special about Badminton? It is impossible to narrow it down to one thing but our unwavering sense of community is something that really needs to be experienced to be believed. We’re fortunate that the size of our campus and community gives an unparalleled homely feel to the School in which every pupil is known by all. With over 35 nationalities represented within our close-knit community, pupils develop an understanding of the viewpoints of others and an appreciation of the School’s international outlook. Our activity-based approach means that from the moment you walk through Badminton’s gates, you are engulfed in its busy, buzzy and friendly atmosphere on campus. Visit us and discover Badminton for yourself.

Inside the Classroom

At Badminton, we believe in really getting “under the skin” of whatever we do, not just skating over the top. To phrase this eloquently, you could say it’s our holistic approach to education! The pupils get really stuck into the subject they are learning, always complementing their studies and enriching their theoretical knowledge with practical co-curricular activities ranging from engineering workshops at Clifton’s Suspension Bridge, to trips to analyse primate behaviour at the Gerald Durrell Wildlife Centre in Jersey. Above all, learning at Badminton is FUN as we encourage the pupils to actively apply their knowledge and skills beyond the classroom in real world examples as much as (or even more than!) within it. A result of this approach is our consistently impressive academic results, which enable the pupils to access a wealth of world-class universities, music conservatoires and art colleges. The curriculum and timetable are constructed to achieve a balance between academic achievement, personal development, life skills and other enterprising activity and our small classes ensure that all the girls receive individual help and attention from their teachers.

Our outstanding facilities

All of our first-class facilities are situated on site. There is an outstanding Creative Arts Centre and a fully equipped Science Centre and Music School with its own recording studio. Badminton School also has a range of opportunities for Junior and Senior Girls in our new multi million-pound Sports Centre and with our Sports Partnerships. Its opening in the spring of 2018, complete with fencing piste, cricket nets and climbing wall shows our continued recognition of the importance that sport plays in lives of our pupils. Our sports facilities also include an indoor swimming pool, international size AstroTurf pitch, tennis and netball courts, a gymnasium and fitness suite. The self-contained Sixth Form Centre has university style study-bedrooms for boarders and shared study areas for all day students, together with seminar rooms, computer facilities and large recreation areas. There is a state-of-the-art, modern boarding house designed for 13-16-year-olds with excellent study and social facilities, and a homely Junior Boarding House for 9-12-year-olds.

Badminton in Bristol

We take full advantage of being situated in such an exciting, cosmopolitan city. Boasting two of the largest universities in the country, Bristol is well known for learning and academic achievement and Badminton girls benefit from attending university lectures and taking part in industry-run competitions, as well as participating in events run by the local business community for young people.

The School itself has an enviable sense of community which is felt the moment you step through the gates into the private, secure campus where our pupils have the space and time to grow, develop and discover who they are and who they want to be, at their own pace. The mixture of old and new buildings gives the School a strong sense of its history whilst remaining modern and functional.  Only 1.5 hours from Heathrow, the School is easily accessible from London and is 30 minutes from Bristol International Airport. We escort the pupils to and from the airport at the beginning and end of terms to ensure their safe arrival and departure to and from the School.

“Throughout all these years I have felt that Badminton has far exceeded our expectations (and my expectations are high!) in terms of providing a second to none education and a supportive friendly atmosphere. Girls leave Badminton highly educated, motivated and independent, ready to face the world with a 'this girl can" attitude which will serve them well. I honestly would not change a thing.”
