Haileybury School

Haileybury is one of the UK’s top independent co-educational boarding and day schools offering a well-rounded education for 11-18 year olds.

Founded in 1862, the school is 20 miles north of London, nestled in over 500 acres of woodland, playing fields and superb facilities.

A key part of the school’s philosophy is about empowering each child to follow their passion and build their self-confidence. Pupils are encouraged to be independent, creative and intellectually ambitious. The school offers a dedicated Lower School for Years 7 and 8, a wide range of GCSE and (I)GCSEs and the choice of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme or A Levels in Sixth Form. Haileybury is ranked Top 10 in The Sunday Times league table for co-ed independent schools which offer the IB.

Haileybury offers an enormous range of co-curricular opportunities: Pupils can choose from over 130 options. There is also a wide array of clubs and societies, broad enough to cater for the most eclectic individuals. From trekking in the Himalayas to debating global issues at its Model United Nations programme, to performing at the latest music or drama production. The school is among the Top 3 for ‘Best for extra-curricular activities’ according to the Good Schools Guide (2018).

Sport is central to Haileybury life and the school has an outstanding reputation. Haileybury is regularly selected as one of the Top 100 secondary schools in the UK for its cricket provision by The Cricketer’s Good School Guide.

The Independent School’s Inspectorate describes the quality of boarding at Haileybury as “excellent”. The houses lie at the heart of a Haileybury education and have done so for over 150 years. They are vibrant, happy, productive and homely communities where lifelong bonds are formed. The school believes that a caring environment is crucial to happiness and fulfilment. For those who board, Haileybury is like a home-from-home, warm and friendly where each and every child is supported to develop their confidence and to help them find their identity, embracing failings as much as successes in their personal journey of discovery.
